On Tuesday, January 7, 2025, three fires broke out in Los Angeles County in Palisades, Eaton, and Hurst, rapidly spreading due to high-speed winds. By Wednesday morning over 50,000 residents had been ordered to evacuate, with homes and historic LA monuments ablaze and toxic smoke filling the streets. A fourth, the Woodley fire (Sepulveda Basin), also broke out on Wednesday.
Two fatalities and countless injuries have been reported, as residents share information, support, and LA fire photos showing the harrowing scene. While experts can’t be sure the exact cause of the unprecedented four major brush fires, scientists cite global warming and climate change as parts of California face drought during their rainy season.
